Walk from Dollar to Glendevon

Thursday 22 May - 10:00am to 3:00pm
A pleasant ‘there and back’ walk along the ancient ‘Cadgers’ Yett’ track used by drovers to take cattle from Auchterarder to Falkirk.

Walk description
The initial ascent from the car park into the Ochil hills provides great views of Castle Campbell to the west and the Forth Valley to the South. We then follow a well defined path through a narrow pass before returning once more to open countryside. Here the route levels out as it passes Glenquay reservoir to the south and hill slopes, newly planted by the Woodland Trust, to the north.
At the end of the walk we drop down to Glendevon village where we can enjoy refreshments in the Tormaukin Inn (the sandwiches are excellent!) before retracing our route back to Dollar.

Walk grade
Although a relatively long walk (9 miles return) with an ascent at each end the majority of the track is flat and easy. Taking about 2 hours each way and allowing for a lunch the total duration could be 5 or more hours. If there has been rain the track can be boggy in places so walking boots are advised. A number of stiles will also need to be negotiated.
Some of you may wish to car share in order to walk one way only. If this is the case please let Maureen know (maureenmitchell123@btinternet.com or 01786 833170) and she will put you in touch with others wishing to do the same.

Refreshments
If it’s a fine day the Tormaukin Inn is likely to be very popular. Please let me know if you are likely to lunch here as it will be necessary to let them know rough numbers a few days in advance.(mikejsnell@gmail.com)

Arrangements
Turn left at the East end of Dollar just before the A91 crosses Dollar burn. Follow the signposts to Castle Campbell which will take you up a steep narrow road alongside Dollar Glen. Our starting point is the good sized public car park on your right halfway up this road.
At 10 am we’ll set off on foot uphill along this road, soon passing a small car park at the end of the public road. (You may prefer to park here if you wish to avoid the ascent from the lower car park - but it can be difficult to find a space).
