The route is flat and on pavements or metalled pathways throughout. Reached via the Merchant City and Saltmarket, the Green contains a number of interesting historical sites and changing vistas, with a mix of open spaces, tree-lined avenues and river views including one of the city’s fine suspension bridges. The People’s Palace is unhelpfully closed for long-term refurbishment but the cafe attached to the central cycling hub on the Green offers the possibility of a halfway coffee stop. Exiting the Green, return along the North Clyde walkway to Clyde Street (Arandora Star and Spanish Civil war memorials) and thence via St. Enochs Square to Queen Street.
Distance c. 5 miles. 2.5-3 hours’
