Dam walk/Glen Road circular Bridge of Allan

Monday 18 February - 10:30am
Meeting point: corner of Blairforkie Drive and Henderson Street, Bridge of Allan. 4 miles, 2.5 hours.  Total ascent c. 275 feet.

A variant of the usual Dam walk which meets the A9 at Dunblane, our proposed route by-passes the golf course to the east and joins Glen Road near its junction with Sheriffmuir Road.  The outward path follows the wooded course of the Allan water, initially close to the riverbank and its feeder burns, one of which is forded on accumulated boulder debris but does not present any major difficulties. Boots are essential as conditions can be muddy underfoot, but ascents into more open terrain are gradual, and the return leg down the Glen Road (closed to traffic in its middle section) is straightforward.

Directions: If travelling from Stirling, Blairforkie Drive is on the right immediately after the Allan Water cafe and before the bridge over the Allan. If coming from Dunblane, it is on the left immediately after the bridge.   There are parking spaces on the bridge itself and on Blairforkie Drive outwith the double yellow-line stretch.

There are public toilets in Henderson Street and a choice of catering outlets for pre- or post-walk refreshment.

Please let Bill Kidd know if you intend to come on the walk
